OUR ISLAMPUR
Urun Islampur also known as Islampur is a city an municipal council of Sangli district in the state of Maharashtra. Initially Urun & Islampur were two different villages but during the course of development & time both villages came together and new town emerged as Urun Islampur. This town is situated at the center having equal distances from Kolhapur, Karad and Sangli. It is located nearby Pune-Banglore NH4 highway hence having permanent all time available communications means.
The name of village Urun benamed from the village goddess Urunavati. Urun village is very ancient village having rich heritage of culture, education, sports and bravery. Islampur Village is developed due to settlement of various trading communities.
Sambhu Appa-Buvafana is gram daivat of this city which represents true symbol of Hindu Muslim unity. Saint Sambhu Appa & Buvaphana had faith on example of Sufi philosophy.
Acharya Jawadekar who advocated Gandhian Socialism is a great son of this soil. Lt. Raghunathrao Bhosale was a soldier of Indian National Army led by Subhaschandra Bos and sacrified his life for freedom of the nation. Lt. major R. G. Bhosale-Patil and so many sons of this soil have been serving in armed force of this nation. Lt. Hon’ble D. R. Anandrao Chavan, Ex. union minister took his early education in this city. Under the leadership of Lt. Hon’ble Rajarambapu Patil, the minister in Maharashtra cabinet, various societies were established some of them are ‘Walwa Taluka Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana Ltd. ’, ‘Kasegaon Education Society’.
Now a days, this town is flourished in all spheres of life. This town is developed as educational and industrial hub. Industries like sugar factories, banks and educational institutes having transactions of crores of rupees within the vicinity of this town. Islampur has major Maharashtra Industries Development Center (MIDC) area including various textile industries, mills, factories as well as large number of small scale enterprises. This town is having irrigated land and therefore prospered due to cultivation of sugarcane. Though the taluka place is Walwa, all the Judicial, Panchayat, and Tehsil related procedures are carried out in Islampur. Urun Islampur is famous place in Maharashtra due to development in various fields like education, industries etc.
